Florence girls beat Niagara

FLORENCE, Wis. – Florence, with Maddy Doll and Aly Young dominating inside, edged Niagara 45-43 in non-conference girls basketball Tuesday.

Doll collected 21 points and 14 rebounds while Young contributed 17 points and 10 rebounds.

“Our post players came through,” Bobcats coach Amy Johnson said of Doll and Young. “But this was a great team effort by everybody.”

The Bobcats, with injuries limiting the roster to six players,

outscored the Badgers 13-6 in the third quarter to snap a 21-21 draw.

Young netted eight third-quarter points and Doll had 10 in the fourth.

“This whole game came down to missed opportunities and went right to the very end,” said Badgers coach Laura Gunderson, noting a last-second shot rimmed out.

Brooklyn Wolosyn scored 15 points and Kaitlyn Lundin had 12 for the Badgers.

On Thursday, the Bobcats (3-15) host Elcho and the Badgers (8-10) entertain Coleman.

Florence defeated Niagara in the junior varsity game.
