VULCAN – Howard “Butch” Nora Jr., 72, of Vulcan, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
He was born on March 4, 1940 in Norway, son of the late Howard and Violet (Dailey) Nora Sr.
Butch graduated from Janesville High School in 1958 and served his country in the U.S. Army.
He worked with his father and later owned Norway Plumbing and Heating for more than 35 years, before becoming the State of Michigan plumbing and mechanical inspector for 15 years.
He married Christine Bowick on Dec. 28, 1993, in Iron Mountain.
Butch loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He liked the outdoors, hunting, fishing, snowmobile racing and riding his Harley Davidson.
Butch is survived by his wife, Christine; sons, Mike (Bonnie Mulvihill) Nora of Hampton, Minn., and Paul Nora of Vulcan; daughters, Theresa Nora of Norway and Carmen Peterson of Norway; grandchildren, Melissa (Joseph) Juneau, Olivia, Elayna, Dane and Jordan Zimmerman, Mark Malnar, Allan Mauro, Dylon Peterson, Alex, Isaac and Tyler Nora; great-grandchildren, Kaden, Landon, Kiera, Norah, Lyla and Carter; sister, Joan (John Redden Ward) Juricek of Georgetown, Texas; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Dr. John Groeneveld, Dane Rossato, Mike Quick and Christy Mattson.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandchildren, Jasmine and Tristan Juneau; and brother-in-law, John Juricek.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Ortman Funeral Home in Norway.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Michael J. Langlais, pastor of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, officiating.
Interment will follow at the Norway Township Cemetery.
