VULCAN – Theresa J. Hammill, 84, of Vulcan, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.
She was born March 2, 1928, in Vulcan, daughter of the late John and Caroline (Bond) Menapace.
A lifelong resident of Vulcan, Theresa graduated from Vulcan High School in 1946. She married Howard Hammill on Aug. 30, 1946, at St. Barbara Catholic Church in Vulcan. He preceded her in death in 1969.
Theresa was dedicated and faithful to her community and her church. She was proud to serve as the Norway Township Clerk for 37 years, a job she loved. She was an active member of St. Barbara Catholic Church, serving as an Eucharistic minister, lay reader, and
RCIA leader. She also served on the parish council and finance committee, and was a member of the altar society.
Theresa will be remembered for her unending devotion to her family. Her generosity, compassion and unselfish acts of love were limitless. She showed her love in many ways but especially through cooking, making sure no one who was hurt or in need went without. She
was a true example of how God would want all of us to live our lives. She will be forever missed and loved.
She is survived by four children, James (Julie) Hammill of Crystal Falls, Timothy (Patty) Hammill of Norway, Beth (Pat) Lister of Vulcan, and Laurene (Ed) Zychowski of Norway; seven grandchildren, Lisa Hammill, Mike (Christina) Hammill, Angela Hammill, Sarah Zychowski, Christopher Zychowski, Katie Zychowski, and Corrin Lister; and four great-grandchildren, Abbey and Jack Brogan, Addison Zychowski, and Chase Hammill.
Theresa was preceded in death by one son, Frederick Hammill; two brothers, Clayton and Lawrence Menapace; and one sister, Elizabeth Hart.
Visitation will be Saturday, Feb. 16 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at St. Barbara Catholic Church.
Funeral services will follow Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at the church. Father Timothy Ekatitis will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial will be in the Norway Township Cemetery.
