KINGSFORD – David C. Ruohomaki, 59, of Kingsford, passed away on Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at his home.
David was born July 6, 1953, in Ellendale, N.D., the son of Wilbert and Anita (Malkamaki) Ruohomaki. He graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1971 and won a scholarship his junior year to Interlochen Center for the Arts. David served his country for three years in the U.S. Navy. He was confirmed at the First Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain.
David was a dedicated employee with the U.S. Postal Service for 35 years, retiring in 2008. For several years, Dave volunteered his time with the Big Brother/Big Sister program. He was an avid Green Bay Packers and Detroit Tigers fan. David loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed spending time at camp and Ottawa Lake. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and collecting stamps.
David is survived by his mother, Anita of Iron Mountain; a sister, Danelle Jones of Saginaw; three brothers, Dan of Neenah, Wis. and Dean and Daryl, both of Iron Mountain; two nieces, Deidra Ruohomaki and Dayna (Gabe) Lacosse; two nephews, Jeff and Derrick Ruohomaki; and numerous stepnieces and stepnephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Rev. Wilbert “Sully” Ruohomaki.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain. Memorial services will follow Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the church. Rev. James Lindgren will officiate.
Burial will be in the Hematite Township Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Fortune Lake Lutheran Camp.
