FLORENCE, Wis. – John P. LePine, 87, of Florence, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, following a brief illness at ManorCare-East Rehab Facility in Green Bay, Wis.
He was born Feb. 2, 1926, in Florence, son of the late Peter and Florence “Flossie” (Malloy) LePine. John married Josephine Holland on Aug. 27, 1958, in Escanaba. She preceded him in death on Oct. 27, 1996.
John served his country in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954, serving in the Korean War. He worked for an electrical contractor out of Escanaba for 15 years, before moving to Florence and working at Florence Water & Light until retiring in 1973. After retiring, he worked for the U.S. Forest Service.
He enjoyed gardening in his flowerbeds, cutting lawns, and loved going to Barb’s Caf for coffee every morning. John had a delightful sense of humor, liked to make people laugh, and had many stories to tell.
John was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church of Florence, the Florence Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3635, American Legion Post 211 of Florence, Florence Sportsman’s Club, and lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans of Escanaba.
He is survived by one sister, Mary Ellen Gremore of Milwaukee; two brothers, Francis (Lois) LePine of Big Bend, Wis. and Howard (Marcy) LePine of Oak Creek, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews spanning three generations.
Visitation will be Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Florence.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at the church. Rev. Matt Settle will officiate. The Florence VFW Post 3635 and American Legion Post 211 will accord military honors at 11:15 a.m. at the church.
Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery in Commonwealth, Wis.
