Leo Badish

QUINNESEC – Leo A. Badish, 76, of Quinnesec, passed away on Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, at Dickinson County Healthcare System.

He was born March 3, 1936, in Stephenson, son of the late Julius and Edna (LaPointe) Badish. A graduate of Stephenson High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1954 and served during the Korean War. He married the former Janet Schetter on Feb. 15, 1958, at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford. After 46 years of marriage, Janet preceded him in death on Oct. 14, 2004.

Leo was an owner/operator, truck driver prior to spending 37 years with Michigan Air Gas. He was a member of the American Welding Society, the Teamsters Union, American Martyrs Church and the FFA (Future Farmers of America). He and Janet enjoyed traveling, touring with the Pleasure Riders Motorcycle Club, enjoying Packer football and square dancing.

He is survived by his children, Renee (Tim) Swanson of Kingsford, Denise Warner of Gladstone, Jay of Phoenix, Gordon (Cindy) of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Jill (Gary) Wellner of Appleton, Wis.; his sister, Shirley Giese of Daggett, Mich.; grandchildren, Ellie Swanson, Morgan (Jesse) Hilyard, Paige Warner, Russell (Jen) Kenny, Joey Grailer, and Kelly Kaczmarek; great-grandchildren, Ezra and Eevie Hilyard, Gracie Hilyard, Nathan and Landen Kenny, and Nicklas Kaczmarek.

In addition to his wife, Leo was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry and Frank Badish; and two great-grandsons, Kyllean and Corvin Hilyard.

Visitation will be Thursday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain.

Funeral services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford. Fr. Joseph Gouin will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.

Burial will be in the Quinnesec Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his memory.
