IM woman charged in New Year’s incident

FLORENCE, Wis. – An Iron Mountain woman accused of attempting to run down two women with her vehicle in the early morning hours of New Year’s Day in Aurora, Wis. has been charged with several felony and misdemeanor counts.
Valerie M. Edwards, 24, faces two felony counts of recklessly endangering safety-second degree, one misdemeanor count of battery, one misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct, one misdemeanor count of possession of marijuana, and one misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
If convicted on all counts, she could spend up to 20 years in prison.
Edwards is scheduled for an initial appearance in Florence County Court on Feb. 5.
According to the criminal complaint in the case, two women claimed that they were talking to a man at the Hitch N Post bar when Edwards attacked one of them.
The women stated that when they left the bar, Edwards came after them in a vehicle and almost hit them.
After Edwards was arrested, deputies from the Florence County Sheriff’s Department discovered marijuana and a smoking device in her vehicle.
In other Florence County Court action:
– Sheldon L. Burkart, 26, of Florence pleaded not guilty to various drug charges and will have a pre-trial on March 5.
He faces one felony count of possession of narcotic drugs, one felony count of possession of marijuana-second and subsequent offense, one misdemeanor count of receiving stolen property, six misdemeanor counts of possession of an illegally obtained prescription, two misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance, and one misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
If convicted on all counts, he could spend up to seven years in prison.
The charges stem from the Dec. 12 burglary of the Laona Pharmacy in Forest County, Wis.
While investigating the incident, deputies from the Forest County Sheriff’s Department executed a search warrant at Burkart’s residence in Florence and discovered numerous controlled substances.
Burkart and a codefendant, 27-year-old Charles E. Hetzer of Florence, also face criminal charges in Forest County for the burglary.
Hetzer is scheduled for a preliminary examination in Forest County Court on Feb. 13, while Burkart does not yet have a court date scheduled for Forest County.
