Forest Park alumni cheering at Northern and Ferris State
CRYSTAL FALLS – Forest Park High School has turned out some outstanding student-athletes who go on to compete at the collegiate level.
Most people hear about the basketball and football players, but there’s also cheerleaders. It is not very often a student from a small school goes on to compete in college, but there are currently six Forest Park alumni cheering at the collegiate level.
Brooke Dishaw, the daughter of Tina and Mike Dishaw, has been cheering at Northern Michigan University for two years. The 2010 Forest Park graduate is taking classes for clinical lab sciences.
In her free time, she cheers along with serving as vice president of the clinical lab science club, a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority.
Brooke also coaches middle school cheerleading at Father Marquette Middle School with Joni Toivonen, another Forest Park alum.
Hilary Roose, daughter of Joe and Michelle Roose, has been cheering at NMU for two years. The 2011 Forest Park graduate is studying to be a radiologist.
When she is not cheering or in class, Hilary enjoys outdoor activities and spending time with her family and friends.
One of her childhood friends, Kathleen Grandahl, is also a cheerleader at NMU. Kathleen is the daughter of Roger and Becky Grandahl.
She is a 2011 graduate of Forest Park and has been cheering at NMU for two years. Kathleen is studying elementary education.
She enjoys being with her friends and family, ice fishing, swimming, running and all outdoor activities.
Anna and Andee Lortie, daughters of Char and John Lortie, are 2012 graduates of Forest Park. They have been cheering at NMU for one year.
Anna is studying to become a respiratory therapist. Andee is studying radiography.
Andee likes to cook, ski, read and craft. Anna enjoys outdoor activities like skiing and ice fishing. They both love spending time with their nieces and nephew as well as the rest of their family. They like to hang out with friends especially their life long friend Kaitlin Shamion.
Kaitlin, daughter of Todd and the late Kim Shamion, is a 2012 graduate of Forest Park. Kaitlin is cheering at Ferris State University. She is studying to become a dental hygienist.
She loves being with good friends and family. Kaitlin also enjoys snowboarding, ice fishing and outdoor activities.
All of the young ladies mentioned above love to cheer and are a joy to be around. They all started to cheer when they were in sixth grade and have so many wonderful memories cheering at Forest Park.
They are continuing to make friends and memories at NMU and FSU. They put in so many hours practicing and perfecting their cheers and routines; they endure bruises, bumps and sprains but continue to cheer because that is what they love.
While they cheered at Forest Park they were coached by Sherie Courchaine, Gail Brzoznowski and Char Lortie.
Gail started working with these young ladies when she was the assistant coach to Sherie Courchaine, they were in sixth grade. Gail continued to coach them throughout their high school careers. Char started to volunteer her time to the FP cheer program in 2010.
These girls dedicate a lot of their time to their collegiate programs. They practice for hours every week; they are in parades and cheer at various sporting events, including football, hockey and basketball.
The Forest Park cheer coaches are proud to recognize our Forest Park alumni for their hard work and great accomplishments.
