Three face arson charges

MARINETTE, Wis. – Three individuals are facing arson of a building with intent to defraud, as party to a crime after a fire at one of the suspect’s house in the town of Stephenson.

Drew Christensen, 28 of Suring; Jessica A. Miller, 37, of Crivitz, Wis.; Donald A. Halbur Jr., 32, of Crivitz, are charged with felony arson in Marinette County Court.

Each will have an initial appearance on Feb. 4 at 10 a.m.

According to court records, charges against the trio were filed in December 2012.

Miller’s home was set on fire in 2011.

Court records say Christensen admitted to setting fire to Miller’s residence, located on Schroeder Lane in the town of Stephenson.

Christensen and Halbur were acquaintances, and they both knew Miller.

Halbur and Miller were aware that Christensen was going to burn the house down before he did, the court complaint said. A gallon of gasoline was purchased by Christensen and left in a red container on the front porch the day the fire was started.

Miller said Christensen offered to burn her house down as he had burned other places, the complaint said.

She also told investigating officers that the house was insured by Allstate Insurance who paid her between $70,000 and $100,000. She used that money to purchase a tavern in Oconto County.

That tavern burned down in 2012.

Christensen is also charged with two counts of arson of a building without the owner’s consent. A status conference in that case is set for Feb. 13 at 9 a.m. in Oconto County Court.
