MARINETTE, Wis. – Cherilyn Ann Hoyum, 71, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at the Bay Area Medical Center in Marinette.
She was born June 10, 1941, in Somerset, Wis., daughter of the late Donald and Annabelle (Lemere) Shay. Cheri graduated from Roosevelt High School in Virginia, Minn. in 1959. She married Raymond Hoyum on Sept. 10, 1976, at St. Mary & St. Joseph Catholic Church and resided in Quinnesec until 2002. Cheri and Ray moved to Lake Superior in 2002, and lived there until 2006. For the past five years they have resided in Menominee.
Cheri enjoyed reading, camping, playing scrabble, and animals. She and Ray loved fishing and shared many good times together. Cheri also loved to write poetry and short stories, and she would paint Christmas ornaments that her husband would make each year. Christmas was always a large, joyous event at the Hoyum house.
She is survived by her husband, Raymond; five children, Richard (Anna) Hoyum of England, Corin Wright of Kingsford, Joseph Edwards of Kingsford, Randy (Sharon) Hoyum of Arizona, and Debra (Greg) Nowak of Kansas; one brother, Kevin Shay of Milwaukee; 10 grandchildren, Marcus, Benjamin, Natasha, Mathew, and Amanda, Jason, Alicia, Randy Jr., Nicholas, and Ryan; and 10 great-grandchildren, Austin and A.J., Kelly, Justin and Ayla, Logan, Harmony and Jordan, Collin, and Ryan.
She was preceded in death by her grandson, Dillon.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 28, at St. Mary & St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Fr. Joseph Gouin will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
