Florence honoring basketball standouts

FLORENCE, Wis. – Florence High School basketball greats will be honored Friday.

Between varsity boys and girls basketball games with Phelps, those players with over 1,000 career points and coaches with more than 300 wins will be recognized.

Kari Flunker (1997-2001, 1951 points), Kris Osterberg (1983-1987, 1756), Jaclynn Kriegl (1994-1998, 1498), DeAnna DeMuri (1986-1990, 1447), Chris Witynski (1985-1989, 1195) and Patty Smith (1991-1995, 1146) topped 1,000 points in their girls basketball careers.

For the boys, Bill Counter fired in 1340 points from 1974 to 1977; Dion Wolosyn, 1123 from 1990 to 1993; John Kriegl, 1082 from 1989 to 1991; Joe Kriegl, 1038 from 1987 to 1990, and Josh Enders, 1014 from 2004 to 2007.

Dan Zoeller (girls) and Bob Wolfe (boys) each coached the Bobcats to more than 300 wins.

Florence’s boys will meet Phelps in the first game at 5:30 p.m., with the ceremony to follow prior to the girls game. Not all of the players or coaches will be in attendance Friday.
