Fire victim identified


IRON MOUNTAIN – Officials have identified the victim of the fatal house fire that occurred at 1232 S. Milwaukee Ave. in Iron Mountain on Wednesday as Robert Louis Davis, 66.

Davis resided at the residence.

A post mortem exam conducted by the pathologist found the cause of death to be smoke inhalation.

Investigation into the cause of the fire is continuing.

Fatal fire in Iron Mountain

IRON MOUNTAIN – One person is dead from a house fire that occurred on the 1200 block of South Milwaukee Avenue during the early morning hours today.

Iron Mountain Police Department responded to the 1200 block of South Milwaukee Avenue at approximately 3:51 a.m. after a resident in the area reported a strange odor.

Upon arrival to the area, Chief Peter Flaminio said officers observed smoke in the area and began walking through the neighborhood looking for the source of the smoke. They then observed smoke coming out of the roof vents and eaves at 1232 S. Milwaukee Ave.

Officers requested the Iron Mountain Fire Department and attempted to make contact with any occupants of the residence.

Entry into the residence could not be made by officers due to the amount of smoke inside.

Iron Mountain Fire Department responded to the scene and upon entry into the residence located the body of a male subject, Flaminio said.

An investigator from the Michigan State Police Fire Marshal’s Office has been contacted and will be in Iron Mountain later today.

Iron Mountain Police and Fire Departments were assisted on scene by the Kingsford Public Safety Department, Dickinson County Sheriff’s Department, Beacon ambulance and personnel from Wisconsin Electric and DTE.

The name of the deceased male is not being released at this time, pending notification of next of kin.
