U.P. inmate killed

WAKEFIELD – An Upper Peninsula prison inmate died after an assault at the Ojibway Correctional Facility, State Police from the Wakefield Post reported.

Troopers were dispatched to the Ojibway Correctional Facility at Marenisco on Friday for a report of an assault on an inmate, Det. Sgt. Russell Larson of the Wakefield Post said Monday.

The victim was transported to a hospital and as a result of the injuries sustained, died on Saturday, Sgt. Larson said.

Names of the individuals involved are being held pending further investigation. The Michigan State Police is being assisted in the investigation by the Michigan Department of Corrections, officials said.
