KIPLING – Fishermen and other ice enthusiasts are reminded to approach area waters with extreme caution in light of three people falling through the ice near Kipling on Saturday, said local police.

Two adult males and a male juvenile were assisted off the ice by a resident with a four-wheeler after the trio went through the ice near the public access site at the mouth of the Days River, according to the Delta County Sheriff Department. The emergency was reported to 9-1-1 around 7 p.m.

A Michigan State trooper was the first to arrive at the scene where a truck with its lights on was being used to guide the group to the shore, said Sheriff Gary Ballweg this morning. A police report did not indicate why the three were out on the ice.

The two adults who fell through the ice were Scott Aho, 42, and Leo Aho, age unknown. The juvenile was Kyler Aho, 13. All three are from Alger County, said Ballweg.

Leo and Kyler were treated at the scene by Rampart Emergency Medical Services personnel. Scott sought his own treatment, according to the police report.
