NORWAY – David C. Larsen, 54, of Norway, passed away Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at his home in Norway.
He was the first baby born of the new year in Dickinson County on Jan. 1, 1959, in Norway, the son of Bruce and Marianne (Carlson) Larsen.
David grew up in Norway and graduated from Norway High School with the class of 1977.
He excelled in athletics – basketball, baseball and especially football – and was recruited by Northern Michigan University where he played football. He was an avid reader and had a gentle, kind heart and a great sense of humor.
David served his country in the U.S. Army. He loved golfing and spending time with his son Nate and granddaughter Mariska.
He worked for Reath’s Nursery for more than 30 years.
He is survived by his son, Nathan (Jessica) Larsen of Norway; granddaughter, Mariska; father, Bruce Larsen of Quinnesec; brothers, Dale (Bonnie) Larsen of Arizona, Tony (Mary Lou) Larsen of Vulcan, and Larry (Nancy) Larsen of Norway; sisters, Cindy (Larry) Butsic of Greenville, Paula (Jim) Ebli of Kingsford, and Patti (Mike) Olson of Merriman; aunt, JoAnne (Ken) Rohde of Norway; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and special friends, Gert Bonneau, who was like a second mother to Dave, Cathy Bonneau, Ray Balkum, and Craig Forstrom.
David was preceded in death by his mother, Marianne Mattson; stepfather, LeRoy Mattson; grandparents, Clarence and Leona Carlson; and cousin, Mark Bray.
A celebration of David’s life will be held at a later date and will be announced.
Interment will be at the Norway Township Cemetery.
