Trojans run to 9-0

CRYSTAL FALLS – Forest Park used a quick start and a big third quarter by Lexi Gussert to wallop Mid Peninsula 77-41 here Monday evening and up their record to 9-0.

Gussert, recording 29 points, 17 rebounds, seven assists and seven steals, poured in 18 points in the third quarter as Forest Park turned a nine-point halftime lead into a 30-pint game by the fourth.

“We just started on fire,” Trojans coach Jeff Syrjanen said. “The ball was moving well, and everyone was clicking and hitting.”

Maria Stankewicz and Sierra Robarge each added 10 points with two triples apiece. Kelsi Hendrickson also hit a couple of threes for six points.

Gina Graff, making her first start, added eight points, and Adel Issacson returned to action after a month-long injury and put in five points in limited minutes.

“We really got good play from our guards again,” Syrjanen said. “Robarge, Stankewicz continued to hit threes, and Hendrickson too.”

Mid Peninsula, led by Kelsey Shope’s 11 points, cut the Trojans lead to four in the second quarter but couldn’t figure out the Trojans half court trap in the second half.

Forest Park, also remaining undefeated in junior varsity play, travels to face Bark River-Harris Friday night.
