IRON MOUNTAIN – Henry Wender, a 24-year veteran of the Dickinson County Board of Commissioners, will serve a sixth straight year as the board’s chairman.

Wender was re-elected unanimously at an organizational meeting Wednesday. He has served as chairman since 2008.

“It’s an honor to be your chairman and a privilege to serve on the board,” Wender said. “This has been a good, working board.”

Wender previously chaired the board from 2003 through 2005, and in 1990. He returned to the board in 1999 after an eight-year absence and was re-elected in November 2012 to an eighth consecutive two-year term. A resident of Breitung Township, he retired in 2010 from dairy farming.

Joe Stevens of Kingsford, who is starting his 19th year on the board, was named vice chairman.

John Degenaer Jr. of Norway, who is entering his 15th year, will continue as finance chairman.

Other members of the board are Ann Martin of Iron Mountain, who is staring her ninth year, and newly-elected Barbara Kramer of Iron Mountain.

Committee assignments will be determined after Wender and other board members review Kramer’s stated preferences.

The board will continue to hold its regular meetings on the second and fourth Mondays of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the circuit courtroom of the courthouse.

Republicans outnumber Democrats 4-1 on the board, with Degenaer the only Democrat.
