Kids’ ski event planned at Keyes Peak Jan. 19
FLORENCE, Wis. – Keyes Peak Ski Hill in Florence will be hosting a ski instruction and racing event for children ages 6-17 on Saturday, Jan. 19.
A $5 fee is required to cover the cost of a lift ticket, rentals, and lessons.
The Granite Peak Ski Team coaching staff from Wausau, Wis. will provide lessons from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Those who wish to try ski racing will have the opportunity to do so from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. as part of the Mike Roberts Memorial Ski Race.
Medals will awarded to all participants, but gold, silver and bronze medals will also be given to the fastest boy and girl in each of the following age categories: six and seven, eight and nine, 10 and 11, 12 and 13, 14 and 15, and 16 and 17.
In addition, the fastest skier of the day will receive the Mike Roberts Memorial Trophy.
“This is a great opportunity for students of all ages and skill levels to get quality ski instruction from professional coaches and, if they are interested, they can try their new skills on an official NASTAR ski race course,” said organizers. “Ski race director Jeff Tobin from Wausau was impressed with the ski runs at Keyes Peak and is excited about providing this new opportunity for kids to try skiing for the first time or take their skiing to the next level.”
All proceeds from the event will go toward the Keyes Peak Ski Hill committee in memory of Mike Roberts, a former Florence resident and Keyes Peak supporter who passed away last summer.
Registration is limited, so call (715) 528-5377, ext. 101 or go to www.exploreflorencecounty.com and click on the “ski racing news” item.
